Winter sports

The Newcomerstown Winter Sports meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. Any winter athlete and their parent need to attend. If the athlete played a fall sport they do not need to arrive until 7:15 p.m. Those unable to attend need to contact Athletic Director Mark Wolff at 740-498-5111, extension 11176, to make arrangements for materials covered at this meeting.

Rummage Sale

The Newcomerstown Senior Center is sponsoring a rummage sale October 11-12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. They will be accepting gently used items, household, collectibles. No heavy furniture or appliances. There will be sandwiches available on Friday. For more information contact the Senior Center at 740-498-4523.

Hog roast

There will be a free fall "Harvest Community Hog Roast" hosted by Light in the Valley Ministries, 101 W. Canal St., Newcomerstown, on Oct. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be food, inflatable obstacle course, kids’ activities and entertainment.

Trick or Treat

The Newcomerstown Merchants’ annual Trick or Treat event will be from 3:30-5  p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26. In addition, the Newcomerstown Public Library is offering space for a business "Trunk or Treat" at the same time, providing an opportunity to be involved for area businesses that may otherwise not be able to take part. Any business, organization or church that would like to take part in the Trunk or Treat should contact Library Director Cody Addy by email, CAddy@nctlib.org, or by calling 740-498-8828. Space is limited.

Road work

COSHOCTON — Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 9, the SR 541 bridge over SR 16 will close to traffic for 10 days for installation of a culvert. All ramps entering and exiting SR 16 that are currently open, will remain open during this closure. Traffic traveling on SR 541 on the west side of SR 16 can access SR 16 by traveling south on S. Whitewoman Street to Spilter Drive to SR 16. Detour: SR 16 to US 36 to SR 60 to SR 16. The City of Coshocton will still be accessible by County Road 1A from SR 16 to the north of the SR16/SR 541 interchange and SR 83 from SR 16 to the south of the SR16/SR 541 interchange. For more information contact: Morgan Overbey, Public Information Officer, at (740) 323-5204, or email D05.PIO@dot.state.oh.us.

Bible Study

Rev.Toni Pugh, bestselling author of "A Step Into Deliverance," will be offering a Bible Study each Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m., beginning Oct. 11, at Orange Grange Hall in West Lafayette. The Hall is located on the corner of US Highway 36 and OH 751 and sits next to the Orange United Methodist Church. VBS at Birds Run

Vacation Bible School will begin on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Birds Run Community Church. The theme is, "The Lord’s Prayer." Join us for a day of fun, food, faith and art. VBS fun for preschoolers through sixth grade and a first time teen/adult class with a surprising twist! Local artist Myrtle Beall will deliver a message to the teen/adult class on the topic, "The Lords Prayer." Then Myrtle will artistically guide participants in painting a beautiful landscape watercolor displaying, "The Lord’s Prayer." Painting is an option not a requirement to attend the class. Donations are asked for the painting participants and those donations will go toward the church’s handicap ramp. The church will have a yard sale. Items may be purchased by donation. Lunch will be provided.

Revival

WEST LAFAYETTE — There will be a revival with Evangelist Kenny Evans from Pigeon Forge, TN, at First Baptist Church of West Lafayette, 688 E. Main St. The schedule is: Oct. 21 - 10:15 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Oct. 22 - 7 p.m;, Oct. 23 - 7 p.m.; and Oct. 24 - 5 p.m. with a lasagna dinner at 7 p.m. and a concert with Kenny Evans from "The American Oldies Show," Pigeon Forge, TN. Singspiration

The third annual Gospel Singspiration will be Oct. 20 from 3-7 p.m. at the Community of Faith Baptist Church, 3051 Sanders Church Rd., Uhrichsville. Music will include Jan & River Valley Boys, Gospel HIMS, In One Accord and others. There will be free sandwiches and refreshments. Everyone is welcome. For information, call 330-243-2817.

Musical program

"A Celebration of the Music of Newcomerstown native Manuel Yingling." will take place on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 121 S. College St., Newcomerstown. A roast beef dinner at a cost of $12. will start at 6 p.m. with a free concert to follow at 7 p.m. To get a dinner ticket, call at the Newcomerstown Museum, 740-498-7735, during museum hours: Oct. 4 , 4-7 p.m.; Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to noon; Oct. 11, 4-7 p.m.; Oct. 12, 10 a.m. to noon; Oct. 18, 4-7 p.m.; Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to noon. The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, roll, dessert, and a drink. Performers for the concert will include Main Street Brass and the Tubafours with Tim Marlatt playing the organ, accompanying Ron Geese. Yingling memorabilia will be displayed with organizers saying, "Wait till you see his trombone – beautiful!"

Spaghetti supper

Calvary United Methodist Church will host a spaghetti supper on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu will include paghetti with homemade sauce, salad, applesauce, bread, beverage and homemade dessert.

Class of 1956

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1956 will meet Thursday, Oct. 11, at noon at Shoney’s on Commercial Parkway in Dover.

Class of 1958

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1958 is meeting for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Mindy’s Diner, 221 W. Third Street, Dover.

Class of 1960

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1960 will meet at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Raven’s Glenn Winery, 56183 U.S. RT. 36, Newcomerstown.

Church dinner

PORT WASHINGTON — St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at the corner of High and Arch streets will have a pork and sauerkraut dinner from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, as part of the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of Port Washington. The cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Carry-out will be available. The menu includes low-roasted tender pork loin, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, dessert, roll and beverage.

Art on display

WEST LAFAYETTE — Marie Kungling will be sharing her art during the month of October at the West Lafayette Branch Library. Marie is a senior art student at the Columbus College of Art and design, majoring in illustrations of Color and Design. The Library is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Faith event

The Isleta United Methodist Church, 58608 Co. Road 9, Newcomerstown, is sponsoring a "Faith, Fun, Fellowship" event on Saturday, Nov. 3. The free event is for women only in "A woman’s encouragement day of faith," with speakers, music and prayer. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the program is from 9 a.m. to noon.
