Newcomerstown Middle School officials have offered congratulations to the NMS "Students of the Month" for September, Iliana Harris, Nyah Baker and Megan Parry.

Information sent by the school notes:

"Mrs. Supers and the Sixth Grade Team have numerous comments to share about their star student, Iliana Harris, daughter of Phelan Harris and Carrie Russell. She has started off her middle school career on the right path to success. She is a very conscientious student who works well with her peers and is willing to go above and beyond the expectations. Iliana is also one that shows up daily with a positive attitude, a smile on her face, and a willingness to learn. Her favorite class this year is history, because it is fun, Mr. Green is nice, and she thinks that it will help her improve in history. Some of her hobbies and extracurricular activities include horseback riding, participating in 4-H, playing with her goats, and spending time with her family. If she were the principal, she would take students on a lot of trips. Some more fun facts about Iliana are that she has several pets ~ 5 dogs, 3 goats, 4 pigs, 1 rabbit, and a pony; her favorite meal is chicken marsala; the last movie she watched was Kingsman: The Golden Circle; her all-time favorite book is Black Beauty; her favorite celebrity is Janell Monet; her worst fear is going into the bathroom after Elias; and her pet peeve is when people don't exit out of apps. If she could have a super power, she would choose invisibility, so she could sneak into Elias' room and draw on his face while he slept. The best advice she's ever received came from her mom, who said, ‘Just be yourself.’ In the future, Iliana hopes to be a dermatologist. Her teachers encourage her to keep up the good work!"

"Nyah Baker, seventh grade daughter of Shawn and Amy Baker, was chosen by her teachers as their Student of the Month for September because she is an exceptional student, who always makes sure her work is done fully and well. In addition, she interacts well with her classmates and is respectful of the classroom environment. Her teachers enjoy having her in the classes. Nyah's favorite class this year is art class, because she loves to draw and enjoys creating her own comics. In fact, in her spare time, she enjoys drawing and writing books. If she were principal at NMS, she would change the dress code a little bit. Some of the rules make little sense to her. Some more fun facts about Nyah are that she has two pets ~ a cat named Sparkles and a dog named Tucker; her favorite meal is deer roast with her mom's mashed potatoes; her favorite movie/tv show is My Hero Academia; her all-time favorite book is Harry Potter; her favorite celebrity is The Living Tombstone; her worst fear is storms (she suffers from astrophobia); and her pet peeve is when people leave globs of ranch dressing on their cafeteria trays. So far in life, Nyah feels her biggest accomplishment has been the books she has written, and in the future she would like to become a top-selling author and improve as an artist. The best piece advice she's received came from several sources, many different people, who have told her, "Do your best and you shall succeed!" Nyah would like to help our world by finding a way to make it safer and more peaceful."

"The eighth grade teachers nominated Megan Parry as their Student of the Month for September because she is an exceptional student, who takes great pride in her work and her ethic here at NMS. She is involved in many things at Newcomerstown Middle School, including athletics, the Newcomerstown Junior Honor Society, and our own NMS Leadership Team. Megan leads by example in the classroom, is self-motivated and strives to be the best version possible of herself. Megan, daughter of Will and Tiffanie Parry, states that her favorite class is Science, because there is always something new that you can learn, and she feels that one of her strengths is her ability to learn quickly. In her spare time, Megan enjoys playing softball and basketball, and if she were the principal, she would pick out a book, have all grade levels read it, then do activities related to that book. Some more fun facts about Megan are that she has two pets, Hemi the dog, and Millie the cat; her favorite meal is sushi; the last movie she watched was 47 Meters Down; her all-time favorite books are The Hunger Games series; her favorite celebrity is Kelly Montalvo; her worst fear is earning a bad grade; she doesn't feel she could live without sports and her pets; and, if she were invisible, she would mess with her friends. The best piece of advice she's ever received came from her father. He told her, "If you believe in something, go get it." She feels her greatest achievement has been her induction into the Newcomerstown Junior Honor Society, and in the future, she hopes to go to college, to further her education. Keep up the great work, Megan!"
