Visiting Garaway opened its Inter-Valley Conference match-up with host Newcomerstown with a 17-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, coasting to a 63-47 victory on Tuesday.
The Trojans (5-9, 2-8 IVC) were limited to 13 first half points by the Pirates (9-2, 8-1 IVC) and could not get untracked before a 21-point fourth when the game was already out of reach.
Matt Ayres led the way for the Trojans, netting 17 points, while grabbing five rebounds, collecting two steals and two blocks. Josh Miller also scored in double figures with 11 points to go with seven rebounds.
Newcomerstown was 17-of-39 from the field with 22 rebounds and 21 turnovers.
Brennan Mullet scored a game-high 18 to lead the Pirates, while Paul Heningford added 13 and Duane Troyer was good for 10 markers.
The Trojans lost the reserve game on a three-point shot as time expired, 31-28. Cody Sproat had nine points for Newcomerstown (9-5, 6-4 IVC). Caleb Fenton scored six points while Darian Arnold added five. The Pirate reserves are 9-0 in the IVC.

Postponement announcement
The Hiland at Ridgewood game scheduled Tuesday night was canceled and will be played Saturday, Feb. 20.
