VODEAN L. BRYAN

1914-2008

Vodean Lois Bryan, 94, a resident of Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newcomerstown for the past few years, formerly of West Street, Newcomerstown, passed away Nov. 30, 2008, in the Riverside Manor care facility.

Funeral services to celebrate Vodean's life were Dec. 4 at the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. Pastor Thomas G. Barber officiated the services with burial in the East State Street Cemetery, Newcomerstown.

A bereavement lunch followed graveside services in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church, Newcomerstown.

Vodean was born in Newcomerstown on March 11, 1914, the only child of the late Wilbert "Will" and Nora McFarland Starts.

She was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, Class of 1932, and was a homemaker for all her adult life.

Vodean was an employee of the former Taylor Stores Inc., Newcomerstown, which later became Scott Stores. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Newcomerstown, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and a pianist. With the church, she belonged to the Winsome Sunday School class and the Alma Noble Circle. Vodean was also a volunteer for both Newcomerstown Meals on Wheels and Riverside Manor Nursing Home. She also worked at the election polls and enjoyed raising flowers, sewing, playing the piano, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Vodean was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Wilbur E. Bryan, Newcomerstown, who passed away Feb. 28, 1986, and whom she married Aug. 26, 1942.

Also deceased is an infant daughter, Linda Bryan.

She is survived by two sons, Glenn D. Bryan of Upper Arlington and Gary W. and wife Lynn (Myers) Bryan of Newcomerstown; two grandchildren, Michelle Mozena and David W. and wife Lindsey (Wilkin) Bryan, all of Newcomerstown; five great-grandchildren, Collen and Garret Mozena, Tayte Bryan and twins Tristen and Trace Bryan, all of Newcomerstown; step-grandchildren, Jeff and Christen Finlayson, both of East Sparta; step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Jordon Finlayson; and brother-in-law, Robert Eastman of Columbus.

The family is requesting that memorials be made in Vodean's name to the First Baptist Church, 135 S. River St., Newcomerstown, OH 43832.
