WALTER N. McPHERSON

1921-2009

Memorial services for Walter N. McPherson, 87, of Newcomerstown, were May 14, 2009, at the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. Rev. James Taggart officiated. He passed away May 9 at his residence.

He was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Newcomerstown, the son of the late Walter H. and Celia A. (Booth) McPherson.

He was a 1940 graduate of Newcomerstown High School and a World War II Army Air Force veteran serving from Jan. 13, 1942, until Dec. 6, 1946.

He retired Jan. 3, 1987, from the Ohio Department of Transportation after 29 years.

Mr. McPherson was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and the American Legion - Thomas C. Montgomery Post 431. He was an avid ham radio operator for over 60 years. His call sign was W8ZKF. He was a photographer, and raised and loved many animals.

On April 27, 1997, he married Karen (Rice) McPherson, who survives. He was preceded in death by his deceased spouses, Joann L. (Farrar) McPherson and Maxie Eileen (Maynard) McPherson.

Survivors include one son, Charles (Donna) McPherson of Largo, Fla.; one daughter, Deborah (John) Mathews of Sherman, Texas; daughter-in-law, Shirley McPherson of Roanoke, Texas; four step-sons, Richard Roe D.C. of Newcomerstown, Raymond (Kathi) Roe of Newcomerstown, Robert (Cindi) Roe of Stranton, Texas, and Randall Roe of Cincinnati; one step-daughter, Ellen (Richard) Hooker of Newcomerstown; 10 grandchildren, John Dan McPherson, Eric Mathews, Shawn Mathews, Eric Willis, Nicole Rusnak, Howard Barthalow, Mike Barthalow, Josh Roe, Anthony Roe and Seth Roe; one great-granddaughter, Kamdyn Rusnak; and favorite friends, Leroy IV and Kitty Kitty.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Jasper McPherson; one brother, John McPherson; and one sister, Ed'ee McJunkin.
