GNADENHUTTEN -- John R. Theriault, 54, of West Lafayette, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 27, 2009) in Lafayette Pointe at West Lafayette following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a painter by trade and worked construction in Florida for a number of years. He loved fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family, friends and his faithful dogs.

He was born in Portland, Ore., on March 24, 1955, and is survived by his father and step-mother, J. Roger and Teresa Theriault of Newcomerstown; his mother and step-father, Myra M. (Weyland) and George Sparks of Whipple; a son, Robby A. Royer; twin grandsons, Gaige and Gabriel Royer of West Lafayette; four sisters, Nan Hartley of Gnadenhutten, Elise (Bruce) Barthalow of Kimbolton, Jodi (Marvin) Tidrick of Coshocton and Kathy Brown of Canton; and four brothers, Danny (Donna) Hartley of Utah, Vern Theriault, Scott Theriault and companion Lynn of West Lafayette and Jeff (Claudette) Theriault of Bedford Heights.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and a sister-in-law, Beth Theriault.

Graveside services were Oct. 29, 2009, at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Pastor Martin Addy officiated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Coshocton County, Box 1284, Coshocton, OH 43812.

Gowins Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten was entrusted with handling the arrangements.
