DALE D. PETERSON
Dale Donald Peterson, 85, Glenmont, formerly of San Francisco, Calif., and Renville County, N.D., passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 24, 2010, in the West View Manor Retirement Center, Wooster.
Dale was born in Sherwood, N.D., (Renville County) on Sept. 22, 1924, a son of the late John and Constance Holter Peterson.
Dale was an employee of the Boy Scouts of America, San Francisco, for over 25 years before he relocated to Ohio. In Ohio, he was employed in the custodial department of the Wooster Community Hospital for 10 years before his retirement in 1991. Dale enjoyed raising flowers, traveling, and spending time with and raising his dogs.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Jean Shinnaberry Haver Peterson, who died March 8, 2007, and whom he married Sept. 24, 1976. Also deceased are two sons, Robert Peterson and Terry Peterson, both of California; and three brothers, Ward Peterson of Los Angeles, Calif., Alfred Peterson of Mohall, N.D., and Roy Peterson of Chandler, Ariz.
Dale is survived by two sons and two daughters, Donald (Marsha) Peterson and Mark (Lela) Peterson, all of California, Lynn Humphrey of California and Valerie (Robert) Patch of Montana; five step-daughters, Lorena (Chuck) Smith of Mt. Vernon, Shirley (Art) Dreibelbis, Sara (Robert) Miller and Barbara Steiner, all of Wooster, and Helen (Harold) Rogers of Glenmont; 12 grandchildren; 25 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Alda LaCrosse of Mohall, N.D., and Iva (Myrle) McLain of Ft. Worth, Texas; brothers, Leland (Vivian) Peterson of Boise, Idaho, and Emil Peterson of Yuma, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Ginger, a poodle, and Candy, a Pomeranian.
To honor Dale's wishes, no public visiting hours will be observed. Public funeral services for Dale were March 1, 2010, in the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown.
Dr. W. Stanley Winters conducted the services. Burial followed in the Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia.
The family is requesting that memorials be made in Dale's name to the Hospice of Wayne County, 2525 Back Orville Road, Wooster, OH 44691.
