M. JANE CRAIGO
WEST LAFAYETTE -- Mary Jane "Janie" Craigo, 82, of Avon Park, Fla., formerly of West Lafayette, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, in Sebring, Fla.
Jane was born in Columbus on Aug. 19, 1928, a daughter of the late Howard and Hazel Russell Schwindt.
She was a graduate of West Lafayette High School, Class of 1946, and the Frances Payne Bolton College of Nursing of Case Western Reserve University in June, 1951.
In Ohio, she belonged to the West Lafayette United Methodist Church and the OES (Eastern Star) Chapter No. 157, Coshocton. Jane has been a resident of Avon Park since 1987. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She also belonged to the Golfettes League at River Greens South Golf Course, Avon Park, Fla.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her son, Michael Joseph Craigo of Bay Village, who died on March 6, 1998. Also deceased are her brothers-in-law, George R. Davis of West Lafayette, who died earlier this year, and Ralph R. Slack of West Lafayette, who died in 2001.
Jane is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joseph (Joe) Craigo, Avon Park, Fla., whom she married Jan. 28, 1951.
She also leaves three daughters, Deborah J. Felix of Williamstown, Mass., Pamela J. (Tom) Vining of Tulsa, Okla., and Beth A. (David) Richards of Boerne, Texas; four grandchildren, Brad Felix of Williamstown, Mass., Amanda Vining of Tulsa, Okla., and James and Joseph Richards of Boerne, Texas; her sister, Dorothy A. Davis of West Lafayette; two brothers, Dr. Charles (Mary) Schwindt of Marco Island, Fla., and Max Schwindt of Connecticut; a sister-in-law, Norma Craigo Slack of West Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews, which would include local residents Doug (Jamie Moner) Davis of West Lafayette, and Lynn (Lee) Russell of Newcomerstown, and their children.
To honor Jane's wishes, her remains have been cremated.
Local memorial services were Sept. 25, 2010, at the West Lafayette United Methodist Church, 120 W. Union Ave., West Lafayette. The Revs. Sue Chidley and Donald Silverthorne conducted the services.
The family is requesting that memorials be made in Jane's name to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823.
