Hazel Marie DeVore, 89, of Gnadenhutten, passed away Thursday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2011, in her Gnadenhutten residence following a short illness.
Hazel was born in Salem Township, Tuscarawas County on Jan. 25, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Leota Bremer Hammond. She was a homemaker for all her adult life and assisted her husband with the ownership and operation of their farm. Hazel enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by husband, Robert M. DeVore, Gnadenhutten, who passed away Aug. 13, 1996, and whom she married March 15, 1960. Also deceased are her son, Max B. DeVore, Gnadenhutten, who died in 1991; and infant daughter, Beverly Ann DeVore of Gnadenhutten, who died in 1960; and her brother, Charles Hammond of Dennison and Charles' wife, Mary Hammond, also of Dennison.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Marie L. DeVore of Gnadenhutten; and cousins, Bill and Shirley Rowland of Tuscarawas, Marilyn Nolan of Newcomerstown, Wanda Ellwood of Dover, and Jim and Mary Rowland of Gnadenhutten.
Funeral services were March 1, 2011, at the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. Pastor Tom Klaserner of the Christian Fellowship Church, Uhrichsville, conducted the services.
Burial followed in the Gnaden-Clay Union Cemetery, Gnadenhutten.
