Owen E. "Gene" Ward, 83, of West Lafayette, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Volga, W.Va., to the late Freeman Ward and the late Emma Mae (Campbell) Ward.
He was a Korean War Army veteran serving from 1950-1952.
He retired from Jones Metal in March of 1990 as a tool and die maker. He was a member of Isleta United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 466 of West Lafayette, and VFW Post 1330 of Coshocton.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean (Hickenbottom) Ward, whom he married July 4, 1951.
He is also survived by a son, Donald (Agnes) Ward of West Lafayette; a daughter, Clenda (Duane) Hardesty of Newcomerstown; six grandchildren, Christopher Ward, Tristen Ward, Brandon Ward, Devin Hardesty, Drew Hardesty, and Tori Hardesty; one great-grandchild, Kayli Smith; a brother, Jim Ward of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Helen Lov of Covington, Ga.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cara Ward; and a stepmother, Doris Ward.
Funeral services were Friday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, with the Rev. Dale Thomas officiating. Burial was in the West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Military services were conducted by the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
