Donald E. Baker, 76, of Newcomerstown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 201,2 at his residence.

He was born June 20, 1935, in Guernsey, to the late John Ira Baker and Lorraine (Wyke) Baker.

He retired after 37 years from Baker Excavating of Newcomerstown, where he was owner and operator. He was a member of Newcomerstown Church of Christ.

He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Doris (Lyon) Baker, whom he married June 11, 1955.

Also surviving are three daughters, Gina (Harry) Malterer of Newcomerstown, Sheila (Tim) Maple of Midland, Texas, and Dona (Rick) St. Clair of Salesville; grandchildren, Staci (Justin) Fellows, Brice (Jessica) Malterer, Tyson Maple, and Shea (Rachel) Maple; step-grandchildren, Maisie St. Clair, Dustin St. Clair (Vicki), and Tansi Miller; great-grandchildren, Jett McElory, Jaxon Fellows, and Logan Malterer; step-great-grandchildren, Davin St. Clair, Vada St. Clair, Landon Fuller, Jaisie Burris, and Jaida Dunkle; brothers and sisters, Virginia Ames of Coshocton, Betty Bliss of Pataskala, Gene (Rosemary) Baker, Jack (Ellen) Baker, and Paul (Elverda) Baker, all of Newcomerstown; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Baker of Canton; a special nephew, Shawn (Amy) Baker and children Nyah and Daleney of Newcomerstown; and his dog, Daisy.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale Baker and John Baker Jr.; and one sister, Nova Thurlow.

A memorial service was Thursday, March 1, 2012, in the Newcomerstown Church of Christ with Gregory Circle and Charles Newell officiating.

The Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown is assisting the family.
