MILAN -- Edith June (Downs) Bibb, 88, of Norwalk, and formerly of Milan, passed away Tuesday evening (Dec. 20, 2011) at her residence following a sudden illness.

She was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Newcomerstown, a daughter of the late Joseph O. and Hazel C. (Brown) Downs.

She was a 1940 graduate of Newcomerstown High School; received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University, and her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Toledo.

She began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Milan in 1958, then moved to Florida for several years and later returned to the area, teaching at Norwalk Schools, where she retired in 1985. She dedicated over 25 years of service in education, teaching kindergarten, first grade, and special reading.

Edith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Norwalk, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association; she enjoyed reading, playing scrabble, and spending time with her family. She had many dear friends who she treasured and who provided her a life time of memories that she shared for 88 years.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph M. Bibb, of Milan, Robert C. (Barbara) Bibb, of Wakeman, and Thomas W. Bibb, of California; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her nieces, Molly June Swartz of Merida, and Venezuela and Catherine (Ken) Robart, of Coolville; and her cousins, Elsie Davis, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Bea Shilmove, of Sun City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Cecil McKee Bibb in 2008; her parents; and her sister, Joanne Stewart, who had lived in Bellevue, Neb.

A graveside committal service took place Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in the Milan Cemetery, 110 S. Edison Dr., Milan, with the Rev. Adrian Neil Doll officiating.
