Bernice Leanna Phillips, 91, of Port Washington, went home to be with her Lord early Sunday afternoon, March 25, 2012, in the Hennis Care Centre, Dover.

Bernice was born in Zanesville on June 12, 1920, a daughter of the late Harvey C. and Arvilla M. Teel Berkshire, both of Newcomerstown.

She was employed as an assembler at the Kurz-Kasch Company, Newcomerstown, for over 17 years. Bernice was also a homemaker for all her adult life and was a member of the People's Community Church, Oxford Township, Tuscarawas County. Prior to this, she was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Newcomerstown. Bernice enjoyed quilting, raising flowers, and gardening. She also was an avid reader of the Bible.

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Phillips, Newcomerstown, who passed away Oct. 28, 2008. Bernice and Carl were married on March 7, 1964. Also deceased is a daughter, Barbara Ellen Stahl, Newcomerstown. Bernice was also the last member of her generation of the Berkshire family, as she was preceded in death by her brother, H. Charles Berkshire of Newcomerstown, and her sister, Alice Guerra of California.

Bernice is survived by her son, Harold R. Stahl of Newcomerstown; daughter, Karen E. (Jim D.) Bouscher of Port Washington; two grandchildren, Timothy J. Bouscher of Dover and Stacy (Daniel) Skukowski of Franklinton, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Kearstyn (Jerrimie) Gordon of Virginia Beach, Va., and Allaynah Bouscher and Audryana Bouscher, both of Dover; a step-son, William D. "Bill"(Alice) Phillips of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate Bernice's life were March 30, 2012, at the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. Pastor Brian Flood of the Community Hospice conducted the services. Burial followed in the Peoples Community Cemetery, Oxford Township, Tuscarawas County, where she was laid to rest beside her late husband, Carl.
