Phyllis J. Arth, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in the Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newcomerstown, following a period of declining health.
She was born at Gnadenhutten on Feb. 2, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Charles Rollie and Minnie Bender Milligan.
She was a 1945 graduate of Gnadenhutten High School. Among her interests in life were traveling, jigsaw puzzles, writing poetry, country music and watching Cleveland baseball games.
She resided on the family farm from the time of her marriage until 2005 when she and Charles moved to the Assisted Living of Riverside Care Center. She moved to the Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in November 2011.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ at Port Washington. A member and past master of Buckhorn Grange; a member of Pomona, State and National Grange.
She was married Aug. 20, 1949, to Charles E. Arth, who preceded her in death on May 20, 2009. Also preceding her in death were two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn (Willard) Grosenbacher of Gnadenhutten and Miriam (Bob) Burgess of Columbus.
She is survived by two sons, Richard E. (Patty) Arth and Donald C. Arth, all of Newcomerstown. Also surviving are eight grandchildren including, Suzanne (Darren) Galbraith of Newcomerstown and David R. Arth of Miami Beach, Fla.; and four great-grandsons including, Holden L. Galbraith of Newcomerstown; and two nieces and three nephews all of Columbus.
Services will be April 28, 2012, in the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Buckley officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, Salem Township.
