Gladys Eileen Thomas, 87 of Newcomerstown, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital. She was born Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1924, in Tuscarawas County, to the late Melvin and Mabel (Egler) Gross.

She was a 1942 Newcomerstown High School graduate.

She was a homemaker and previously worked at the Newcomerstown Schools Superintendents office from 1942 to 1943, and in the office of Heller Bros. Tool Co. from 1943 until 1952 both of Newcomerstown. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Newcomerstown.

On Dec. 9, 1947, she married Chester W. Thomas, who died Oct. 21, 2007.

She is survived by one daughter, Janice E. (Dan) Stocker of Newcomerstown; one son, James C. Thomas and his fianc Ginny Smith of West Lafayette; one granddaughter, Tiffany Thomas of West Lafayette; three grandsons, Shaun Snader of Falls Church, Va., Jonathan (Ashley) Stocker of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Cory Stocker of North Canton; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Anthony Incarato; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Maurer; brother-in-law, Ervin Maurer; bother and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Arlene Thomas and Mildred and Lloyd Hothem.

Services were May 2, 2012, at the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, with the Rev. Kenneth Hacker officiating.

Burial was in the West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown.
