ORRVILLE -- John R. Berg, 67, of Westerville, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, after a short battle with cancer.

John was born in Oak Park, lll., on Sept. 4, 1944.

He was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, Wittenberg University and Capital Law School, Columbus.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired Grange Insurance attorney.

John is survived by his mother, Eleanora (Nelson) Berg of Orrville; sisters, Kareen Brenneman of Massillon, Kathy (Randy) Osler of Overland Park, Kan., and Janeen (Dave) Parfitt of Clinton; nephews, Ken (Stephanie) Brenneman of Columbus, Bryan and Scott (Tacy) Osler of Overland Park, Kan., Jon, Jeremy, and Chris Parfitt of Austin, Texas; and a niece, Katy Kendrick of Orlando, Fla.. Seven grand nephews and nieces also survive.

John was preceded in death by his father, Robert Berg; sister, Kristine; and brother-in-law, Jim Kendrick.

John touched many lives during his careers in theatre, broadcasting and law with his special kindness, wit and generosity of spirit. His family will especially miss his creative mind, gentle nature and endearing smile. There will be no calling hours.

A private burial service will be held at the Ohio and Western Reserve National Cemetery, in Rittman. A service of celebration of John's life was held at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 140 W. Water St., Orrville, OH 44667, on July 17, 2012.
