Harlan Edward Roberts, 85, of Morehead, Ky., and formerly of Newcomerstown, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, after an illness of several weeks.

He was born in Morehead, Ky., on July 16, 1928, to the late Eddie and Ethel Dillon Roberts.

Mr. Roberts formerly owned and operated a car wash, worked for a security service and was a farmer. He attended the House of Prayer and was a former member of the Black River Game Club in Ohio and enjoyed raising flowers and a vegetable garden.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta Roberts; his second wife, Joan Wood Roberts; five brothers, Willie, Junior, Bubby, Woodrow and Charles; and six sisters, Lillian, Faye, Eula, Opal, Eva and Jewell.

Survivors include his wife, Bertie Kegley Roberts; two sons, Henry (Wendy) Roberts of Aurora, Ohio, and Kenneth (Laura) Davis of Colonial Heights, Va.; one daughter, Karen (Robert) Cathers of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Earl Roberts of Guernsey, Ohio, and Jackie Roberts of Morehead, Ky.; one sister, Mary Jane Hall Jackson of Guernsey, Ohio; Bertie's children, Ray (Villie) McDaniel, Bernard (Joann) McDaniel, Roberta (David) Howard, Berniece (Archie) Griggs, Deborah (Jr.) Stevens and Frank and Sarah Mickey; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 12 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with the Rev. Winston McClurg officiating.

Additional services were conducted Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, in the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, with the Rev. A.C. Dockery officiating.

Burial followed in the Early's Cemetery in Newcomerstown, Ohio.
