William Henry Herbert, 86, Port Washington, formerly of Newcomerstown (Oxford Township) Coshocton County, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at Community Hospice House, New Philadelphia.
He was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Coshocton County, to the late George Edward and Florence Mae (Lacey) Herbert. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran from July 13, 1945, to Dec. 30, 1946, with the Infantry Co F, 3rd Infantry with the Army of Occupation, Berlin. He retired in 1989 from Tuscarawas County Road and Bridge. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ of Port Washington.
On Oct. 16, 1948, he married Hazel Joan (Speer) Herbert, who died Oct. 14, 2008.
He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Louise (Daniel) Duling of Coshocton; three sons, Donald Wayne (Patricia) Herbert and George David (Chloe) Herbert all of Port
Washington, and Michael William (Pamala) Herbert of Strasburg; grandchildren, Lori (Anthony) Dallacheisa, Katie (Charles) Jennings, Grace Duling, Lacey Miller, Brooke Herbert, Jake Herbert, Bailey Herbert, Tiffany Herbert, Kristin Herbert, Heather (Jay) Cochran, Jennifer Morrison, Nichole Gabriel, and Sean (Cassie) Newsome; great grandchildren, Isabella Cochran,
Hannah Morrison, Abby Morrison, Carter Gabriel, and Payton Miller; one brother, Raymond W. (Fern) Herbert of Coshocton. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura M. Scheibe and Edna L. Chaney; a brother, Lester E. Herbert; an infant brother; and a grandson, Donald Wayne Herbert II.
Services were Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown, with Dr. Robert E. Buckley officiating.
Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown.
Military graveside service were conducted by Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
