Lucy Mae Jordan, 85, of Newcomerstown, passed away on Monday evening, Jan. 20, 2014, in the Intensive Care Union of Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, following a short illness.
Lucy was born in Belmont County on June 9, 1928, a daughter of the late Clarence "Buck" Jackson and Nina B. Briggs Jackson, both of Barnesville.
Lucy was a homemaker for all of her adult life. She was employed as an assembler with Groovfold Fabricators, Newcomerstown, for several years. She also worked at March Electric, Cambridge, for a few years and also served families with private home care. She attended the Trinity Baptist Church, Newcomerstown. Lucy was a huge fan of the NBA. She cheered for the Cleveland Cavaliers for years and then followed LeBron Janes to the Miami Heat and became a Heat fan. Most of all, Lucy enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandchildren and visiting with all of her friends.
In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles Tracy Jordan Sr., Newcomerstown, who passed away on Oct. 7, 2007. Lucy and Tracy were married on June 27, 1948. Also deceased are a great-grandson, Zedekiah Jordan; a great-granddaughter, Crystal Barkley; three brothers, Dale H. Jackson of California, "Bud" Jackson of Barnesville and Charles Jackson of Columbus; and two sisters, Josephine Drake of Barnesville and Iona Jones of Columbus.
Lucy is survived by two sons and their wives, Charles T. "Chuck" Jordan Jr. and wife Sandra of Tucson, Ariz., and Bradford "Brad" and wife Eldoree Jordan of Newcomerstown; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alva Jackson of California; a sister, Carol Sterns of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Vicki T. Jackson of Newcomerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate Lucy's life were Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in the Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown. Deacon Jimmy Tanner conducted the services and Barbara King performed the readings. Burial followed in the West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Lucy's name to the Newcomerstown Senior Citizens Center, 222 S. Bridge St., Newcomerstown, OH 43832.
