Kimberly A. "Kim" Bates, 57, of Cambridge, died Saturday (October 7, 2017) at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Feb. 13, 1960 in Cambridge, daughter of Dixie (Stover) and the late Robert Van Dyne Jr.

Mrs. Bates had worked at Cambridge City Schools, where she had been the head cook for many years.

She loved her flowers and knick-knacks. She enjoyed watching sporting events and traveling. She was a member of the Moose Lodge of Cambridge.

Mrs. Bates was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cambridge.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Haven Stover and Doreen Stover-Bumgardner; and her paternal grandparents, Mabel and Robert Van Dyne, Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Jan Bates, whom she married Feb. 14, 2013; her mother, Dixie Van Dyne of Cambridge; two sons, Tyler Markley of Cambridge and Trevor Markley (Alyssa Poland) of Cambridge; a stepson, John (Michelle) Bates of Blacklick; a step-daughter, Kasey Bates of Zanesville; a brother, Robbie (Trish) Van Dyne of Cambridge; three sisters, Lisa Mead of Cambridge, Julie Black of Worthington, and Stacy Van Dyne of Cambridge; a grandson, Beckham Markley; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be from 4-5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 136 E. Eighth St., Cambridge, on Wednesday, Oct. 11, with a memorial service following at 5:30 p.m. Evang. Mark Beros will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, at a later date.
