Church gives thanks for student helpEditor:On behalf of the program, Christ's Kitchen, under the direction of Christ United Methodist Church with the collaboration of Journey's End and the Newcomerstown/Port Washington Ministerial Association, I would like to express my thanks to the Newcomerstown volleyball players, both junior and senior high, for volunteering a total of 92 "woman" hours to the weekly community meal during the month of August. Their presence, full of youthful energy and excitement, was greatly appreciated by other volunteers as well as the patrons of Christ's Kitchen. All the Newcomerstown fall sports programs, with guidance from their coaches and athletic director, Matt Ritzert, served throughout the community during the month of August in an effort to give back for all the support they have received these past years.I want to encourage residents of Newcomerstown to checkout the game schedules and go down to the schools and cheer the Trojans to victory. I don't want to forget to mention my appreciation for the support offered by the marching band, cheerleaders, student body, and parents in the making for a success sporting event.Additionally, the Newcomerstown school district has made it affordable for everyone to attend sporting events. District residents can earn free passes by working at athletic events. Contact the athletic director for more information. Additionally, when you are unable to attend a game, Newcomerstown has a wonderful resource, WNHS, 105.7FM radio and channel 21 TV. What a privilege to have this technology available in our community. In addition to good music, and public service announcements, it is great to be able to listen (or watch) the games when you are unable to attend. To help ensure that coverage of the games and other activities continue, contact Shawn Dakin at the high school at 498-5111 to learn about sponsoring the radio station. Christ United Methodist strongly supports our schools and local youth with our prayers and wants to wish all the student athletes a fun and safe season. May the athletes continue to represent themselves, their school and our community, both on and off the field, with class and character. Go Trojans!Joy Snyderoutreach and event coordinatorChrist United Methodist Church Newcomerstown
