While walking around and enjoying the Cy Young Festival on Saturday, I couldn't help but notice the tent set up by a group called Parenthood.org. Not to be confused with Planned Parenthood. This group is a Pro-Life organization who on their website state that they aim to create a pro-life influence on the internet and stop government funding for planned parenthood. One of their signs that they had hanging up at their tent said something to the effect of Help stop legalized abortion.

This group was soliciting signatures for a petition. There were a couple of older ladies manning the tent and they had people walking around trying to obtain signatures as well. My first thought when I walked by the tent was "What is this group doing here at the festival?" followed by "Why did the festival committee allow them to be here?."

Personally, I don't think the Cy Young Festival was the proper place for this group to be set up. Not to mention that they were smack dab in the middle of all of the kids games and rides, etc. I'm sure that some people didn't mind and may have even signed their petition, but I'm just as sure that some parents were asked questions about who or what this tent was for.

Questions that perhaps the parents may not have been prepared to respond to at the time. I attended the festival to enjoy the events, socicalize, eat some food and have a good time. Not to be solicited.

There is a time and place for all of the many groups or organizations to get their message out or fight for their cause. I just don't think the festival was the right choice for this one.
