Many years ago I heard the statement, "You must stand for something, or you will fall for anything." This was said from a religious perspective, so I believe the meaning was to stand for what I believe, what is right, or what the Word of God says.

I have often heard pastors encourage us to study so as to understand what we believe, and why. 1Peter 3:15 says and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. If I don't know why I believe as I do, how can I explain my beliefs to others? And if I don't understand this, what is to prevent me from believing something that is not right?

Then too, I am reminded of a hymn we sing at church. It says in part, "Though none go with me still I will follow, no turning back, no turning back." In this life it's wonderful to have the love and support of friends; someone to stand with me when the times are hard. But it often seems friends are not with me when I need them most.

Yet as a Christian I am never alone. Jesus tells me in His Word that He will never leave me nor forsake me.

Will the time come that by the world's standards I will be alone? Maybe. Even still I must stand for what I know is right, trusting God for the strength I need.

To stand alone is not easy; to stand with God is a blessing beyond measure.
