Editor, The News:
Recently, it was brought to my attention that the Village of Newcomerstown is applying for a liquor license in order to advance a beer garden during a festival at Newcomerstown High School.
Regardless that the proximity of the beer garden is adjacent to the parking lot, how sad that this is even acceptable.
My heart sank when I realized that our elected mayor and council feel this is building our community and prospering funds. I have watched young people throughout our community battle their addictive demons of alcohol and drugs.
Lives are often destroyed by underage drinking. They have to start somewhere. Our youth need little encouragement by incorporating a beer garden at a festival. Our youth should benefit with wholesome activities.
God help us at this juncture.
Choose you this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, I will not be a part of this movement nor will I encourage anyone else to do so. Search your hearts, people.
