Wow. Where do I start? Does anyone remember the last question? I do and I have it right here. But I feel a refresher of the past articles is needed.
The Bible speaks of only one church, the one Jesus said he would build, Matthew 16:18. Here are the things you will love about his church. There were priests in the Old Testament. Only the tribe of Levi could be priests, but today all God's faithful children are priests and Jesus is the high priest, I Peter 2:5. There are five acts of worship in the New Testament church. Two are to be done only on the first day of the week, the Lord's Supper, Acts 20:7, and giving of your money, the collection, I Corinthians 11:23. We do not tithe, that is the old law, no envelopes, no one comes to your home asking, no chili suppers, rummage sales, etc. There is only one way to support the Lord's church, a Christian is to dig into his or her pocket and give on the first day of the week. We may meet five days for a gospel meeting and never pass the collection plate. The third is singing, no choirs in the Lord's church, why? Because the congregation is the choir. Read Ephesians 5:19, we are all to sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord, acapella music of the church. The fourth is preaching and teaching. You would not be able to pick out the preacher until he got up to speak as no robes are worn. No one is elevated as we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. The fifth and last is prayer. When Peter was in prison, constant prayer was made by the church, Acts 12:5.
Let us not corrupt the simplicity of Christ by adding special services like Christmas, Easter, etc., II Corinthians 11:3. Remember we are here to please God, not ourselves.
Can women preach and teach? Next time.
