About the Bible

Lent? Is it from God? I can't find it in the Bible, thus it must be from man. Have you noticed how many religious words that we use today cannot be found in God's Word? Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Nuns, Mass, Pope, Mother Mary, Vicar, Rosary beads, sacrament, and I could go on and on. The word reverend is only once in the KJV and it says, "holy and reverend is his name," and it refers to God. Man has no right to be called reverend, and a small r is used, showing it is an adjective, not a title, Psalms 111:9. Notice the next verse, 10, "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." If we don't fear the Lord, we begin to think we can add things to make worship better, but read Proverbs 14:12, "there is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end there of are the ways of death," and in case you don't understand it, God repeats it in chapter 16:25.

Jesus warns us in Matthew 7:21-23, "Not everyone that sayeth unto me, 'Lord, Lord' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father." Notice even good works alone will not save us, verses 22 and 23. John says at the very end of Revelation, "if any man adds unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues." God has given a simple worship plan, to meet on the first day of the week to remember the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, called the Lord's Supper, in His memory. This will please God. Acts 20:7.

Does God hear and answer every prayer? Next time.
