Division III district semifinals

Ridgewood 5, Martins Ferry 0

CAMBRIDGE -- Haley Kolmerten continued her mastery of the mound as she fired a three-hit shutout of Martins Ferry in the Division III district softball semifinals at Cambridge City Park on Tuesday.

The win sets up the Generals (16-10) for an all Inter-Valley Conference showdown in the district finals against Sandy Valley on Thursday with a regional berth on the line. Results of that game were not available at press time due to the early holiday schedule and will be in the next edition.

The Cardinals defeated the Generals twice in regular season play, 1-0 (16 innings) and 2-1.

Ridgewood got all the runs it needed in the first inning when the team put four on the scoreboard.

Katie McVay smacked a triple and single for the Generals while Marissa Barnett brought home two runs. Sally Sharier, Mindy McDorman, and Laura Dotson contributed one RBI apiece.

Cathy Frohnafel had a double for the Purple Riders. (8-12).

Regular Season

Newcomerstown 14, Conotton Valley 4

The Trojans set a new school record for victories in a season as they stormed past Conotton Valley, 14-4, in Inter-Valley Conference softball action on Monday.

Hannah Rexroad got the win for Newcomerstown (18-11, 9-7 IVC), striking out six and walking none. Taylor Rothacher struck out one and issued five walks in a losing effort for Conotton Valley (0-22, 0-16 IVC).

Christy Felton and Amber Gibson led the way for the Lady Trojans at the plate. Felton crushed a triple and a double, had five RBI, and scored two runs while Gibson cracked a home run and a single to finish with two runs and four RBI.

Also for the Orange and Black, Krystin Raach laced two singles with two RBI, Jessie Rexroad had a single, a run and an RBI, Andrea McWhorter had a single and two runs and Hannah Rexroad had a single and two runs.

Rothacher led Conotton Valley with a single and an RBI.

Regular Season

Strasburg 8, Newcomerstown 1

In a precursor to Thursday's district playoff showdown, Strasburg defeated home standing Newcomerstown 8-1 on Friday in Inter-Valley Conference action.

Martina Triplett struck out three and issued one walk in a losing effort for the Trojans (17-11, 8-7 IVC). Carly Clark struck out 11 and walked none to get the win for the Tigers (25-3, 12-0 IVC).

Krystin Raach led Newcomerstown with two singles and a run, followed by Triplett with two singles and Kirsten Ritchie with a single and an RBI.

Aubrey Burnworth led Strasburg with a home run, three singles and four RBI.
