NMS athletes win at championships

On Sunday, May 24, Newcomerstown Middle School students Cydney McMillan, Chandler Shryock and Mitchell Meeks competed in the Middle School State Track and Field Championships at Pickerington North High School.

Over 600 athletes competed at this event in both Division 1 and Division 2/3. Newcomerstown athletes competed in the Division 2/3 events.

NMS eighth grader Cydney McMillan won the state title in the pole vault, tying the state record with a vault of 9 feet. McMillan is the daughter of Roy and Christy McMillan.

Fellow NMS eighth grader Chandler Shryock won the state title in the 110 hurdles and finished second in the 200 hurdles to become the state runner-up in that event. He is the son of Kathy and Rocky Anderson, and Roger Shryock.

Seventh grader Mitchell Meeks placed second overall in the seventh grade division of the pole vault. Meeks' parents are Steve and Shelly Meeks.
