Nc'town wins two scrimmages
Newcomerstown 1, Shenandoah 0
The Trojans scored a 1-0 scrimmage win over the Zeps on a hot Saturday morning. Senior quarterback Caleb Rankin snuck in from one yard out for the game's only score. Another Trojan touchdown was denied when the ball was fumbled in the end zone.
Newcomerstown head coach Eric Brock said, "We saw a lot of positive things on both sides of the ball. The defense kept them out of the end zone which is always good. On offense I thought we ran the ball very well. Our offense line blocked great but we had two fumbles and those have to be corrected, as do some elements of the passing game. The little things that keep a mediocre team from being great will have to be ironed out."
Meet-the-Team for the football players was held before the scrimmage while introductions for the other high school and junior high student athletes, band members, and cheerleaders were conducted afterwards. A hog roast put on by the Newcomerstown Athletic Boosters started at 11:30 and went on until 2:00.
The Trojans play their final scrimmage, which will be played as a regular format game, at Bellaire St. John Central on Friday. Kick-off with the Irish is at 4:00.
Newcomerstown 1, Northridge 1
In a scrimmage that was treated more like a practice, host Newcomerstown tied Northridge at Lee Stadium.
"It went pretty well," said Newcomerstown coach Eric Brock. "It was nice learning experience."
Newcomerstown's lone score came on a five-yard pass from Caleb Rankin to Clint Foraker
