Newcomerstown-Ridgewood rivalry week activities
Several special activities will highlight the week leading up to the season ending rivalry football game between Newcomerstown and Ridgewood.
On Tuesday, Oct. 26, the Newcomerstown Elks will sponsor the annual Sportsmanship Dinner. Football players and cheerleaders from the two schools will participate in the annual dinner.
On Thursday, Oct. 28, Newcomerstown fans will gear up for the big game with the traditional bonfire. The bonfire and pep rally will begin by the football practice field at 7 p.m. Also Thursday, the Newcomerstown boys' basketball team is sponsoring a hog roast dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school commons.
This year, the Newcomerstown cheerleaders and student council are sponsoring a special fund-raiser to benefit Ridgewood senior Lorren Foster. The student was injured in an automobile accident Aug. 25 and has been hospitalized ever since. Donors can sign their names and offer messages of support on Trojan heads available at each school. Money collected through the effort will be presented at the football game Friday, Oct. 29 when Newcomerstown travels to Ridgewood to battle the Generals.
