A host of players from the Eastern District received recognition on the 2011 Ohio High School Fastpitch Coaches Association all-state team.

Two local players earned all-state recognition, headed by Newcomerstown High sophomore Allie Hinton, a first team selection in Division IV, and Buckeye Trail High senior shortstop Alexa Abrams, who was named to the second team in Division III.

First team honorees from the district include junior pitcher-outfielder Ali Smith of Tri-Valley in Division I; sophomore pitcher Taylor Spang of River View and junior pitcher Hayley Flynn of Philo in Division II; sophomore pitcher Victoria Mimken of Fort Frye and senior shortstop Kelli Mohr of Sandy Valley in Division II; and senior pitcher Kasey Gerber of Strasburg and Hinton of Newcomerstown in Division IV.

Second team selections include junior first baseman Torre Corpman of Dover and senior pitcher Lexi Sheets of Carrollton in Division II; Abrams and sophomore catcher Anya Misko of Garaway in Division III; and senior third baseman Kristen Smith and junior third baseman Ann Dreher of Tuscarawas Central Catholic in Division IV.

Named to the honorable mention all-state list were senior catcher Tashia Hummel of St. Clairsville and junior pitcher Maddy Shelley of New Philadelphia in Division II; junior catcher Nicole Miller of Fort Frye and junior catcher Casey Garloch of Bellaire in Division III; and senior pitcher Bethany Cera of St. John Central and junior pitcher Taylor Zeiger of Malvern in Division IV.

Eastern District "Player of the Year" honorees include Spang of River View in Division II; Mimken of Fort Frye and Mohr of Sandy Valley in Division III; and Gerber of Strasburg in Division IV.

The "Coach of the Year" honorees include Rodney Stein of River View in Division II; Barb Sleek of Fort Frye in Division III; and John Dupke of Newcomerstown in Division IV.
