GNADENHUTTEN -- James "Jamie" Herman is the new head coach for the Indian Valley boy's basketball team. He replaces Andy Dean, who left the program after this past season.

Herman is a 1992 Indian Valley graduate and had been the junior varsity coach at Southern Wesleyan University in South Carolina. He was on the basketball and baseball teams at Southern Wesleyan and graduated in 1999. His first position was with the women's basketball program at the university.

Afterward, he went to Anderson University to be an assistant with the men's team and two years later, became the head coach with Abbeville High School. While there, he revitalized the Panther team by winning two regional championships and finishing regional runner up three times. Abbeville was 44-31 in Herman's final three seasons, which was the best run of games the school had in 20 years.

He also graduated with a master's in sport science from the United States Sports Academy in 2007, was of the Teacher of the Year at Abbeville in 2003 and was named to the Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Herman and his wife Julie are the parents of five children, including Jameson (10), Julian (9), Jaden (6), Jacie (4) and J.J. (2).
