AKRON Indian Valley used an overwhelming ground game and big second quarter to power by Manchester 28-14 in a Principals Athletic Conference game on Friday.
Freshman Jake Davis tore up the gridiron with 239 yards rushing to go with three TDs to lead the way. Overall the Braves (3-3, 2-1 PAC) hammered the Panthers defense to the tune of 415 rushing yards on a whopping 54 carries.
After spotting Manchester a 6-0 first quarter lead by way of a five-yard toss from Nick Peyakov to Chad Robertson, Indian Valley got three straight Davis scores in the second quarter on runs of 23, 58, and 35 yards. Konnor Cool made two extra points while the other was blocked to make the halftime score 20-6.
In the third quarter, Manchester scored on a 27-yard pass, again from Peyakov to Robertson, and then made the two-point conversion to close the gap to 20-14.
But in the fourth quarter, only the Braves put points on the board as senior Dominic Bell scored on a one-yard run and quarterback Kyle Lehigh added the two-point conversion to seal the Panthers fate.
Lehigh was 3-for-6 in passing for 56 yards giving the Braves 471 yards of total offense.
Peyakov finished 15-of-33 for 199 yards for Manchester (3-3, 2-1 PAC), who racked up 131 on the ground for 330 yards of total offense.
The Braves led in first downs, 20-14, and neither team lost a fumble or gave up an interception.
Indian Valley travels to Triway this Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m.
