MAGNOLIA A fast start in the first quarter paved the way for a 34-7 Ridgewood win over Sandy Valley on Friday in an Inter-Valley Conference match-up.

The win put the Generals at 6-0 on season and 3-0 in league play.

Ridgewood controlled the ground with 249 yards while limiting the Cardinals to just 87. Jake Ziegler had 58 yards on seven carries while Trent Lingo racked up 56 yards on nine totes.

Lingo got this team on the board at the 6:56 mark with a nine-yard run after the Generals fell on a bad punt snap by the Cardinals. Brian McElhaney added his first of four extra point kicks to make it 7-0.

Zeigler came through with a three-yard run with 1:26 left in the first quarter after the Generals again got great field position due to a Cardinal bad snap.

Landon Smith made an interception shortly after and Dakota Albertson then pulled in a seven-yard toss from quarterback Chris Saylor to make it 21-0 at the end of one quarter. Neither team scored in the second frame as the Generals played quite a few players from the depth chart.

Lenard Davidson scored from the one for the only points in the third stanza to put the Generals up 28-0.

The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter with Cardinal QB Sam Groff hitting Cody Stark on a nine-yard strike. Ridgewood wrapped up scoring with 1:48 left to play with a five-yard run by Ryan Cognion.

The Generals finished with 307 yards of offense as Saylor went 8-for-17 for 58 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. The Generals led in first downs, 19-12.

Sandy Valley accounted for 218 yards of offense. Groff completed 12-of-26 passes for 131 yards and one pick while running for 58 yards on 16 carries. The Cardinals (2-4, 1-2 IVC) lost two fumbles while the Generals lost none.

Ridgewood next hosts Liberty Center on Saturday with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
