MASSILLON Indian Valley got into a shooting match with Tuslaw but ended up having the most firepower as the Braves came away with a 49-28 win over the Mustangs on Friday in a PAC-7 game. It was Indian Valleys fourth win in a row.
Freshman Jake Davis ran for 143 yards on 23 carries and scored two rushing and one receiving touchdown to lead the Braves offense, which amassed 352 total yards.
Neither team crossed the goal line in the first quarter but lit up the scoreboard with big play after big play in the second as the Braves moved out to a 21-14 halftime lead.
Indian Valley got things rolling when Dominic Bell plunged into the end zone from the one. Konnor Cools extra point, his first of five on the night, made it 7-0.
The Mustangs responded with a 62-yard scoring pass from quarterback Graham Burrow to Kyle Novak but the extra point failed and the score stood 7-6.
The Braves struck back with a 56 yard pass from Lehigh to Holden Fellers that hit paydirt for a 14-6 lead.
Back came Tuslaw in the seesaw quarter as Burrow connected again, this time on a 64-yard strike to Joe Sanders. Burrows successful run on the two-point conversion tied the game at 14-14.
Then it was Indian Valleys turn as Lehigh and Davis combined on a 44-yard aerial for a TD and a 21-14 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, the Braves kept up the pace but the Mustangs started to run out of gas.
Indian Valley scored three times, including a 35-yard run by Davis, a two-yard dive by Bell, and a 65-yard interception return by Dusty Byers.
Tuslaw (4-5, 2-4 PAC) could only manage a one-yard run by Burrow making the score 41-21 as the final quarter began.
The Mustangs made a run at it as Burrow connected on this third TD pass of the night, this time a five-yarder to Matt Lemke, to close the gap to 41-28.
But the Braves responded with a 24-yard run by Davis to the house, which he finished off by also carrying in the two-point conversion for the final score.
Indian Valley (6-3, 5-1 PAC) outgained Tuslaw in total offense, 352-329. Lehigh was an efficient 5-for-5 for 122 yards and no interceptions.
Burrow capped the night by going 20-for-38 for 271 yards but had two costly interceptions. He threw for three TDs and ran for one. The Mustangs could only manage 58 yards on the ground on 19 carries.
Indian Valley finishes up the season with a special Thursday game by traveling to Tusky Valley. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
