Division III District

West Muskingum 41, Ridgewood 39

STEUBENVILLE -- The Lady Generals came up short in their first district appearance since 1985 as they fell to the Lady Tornadoes 41-39 on Wednesday in a Division III semi-final battle at Steubenville High School.

Although never far behind, Ridgewood could not get over the hump due to West Muskingum's swarming zone defense. The Lady Tornadoes led 22-18 at halftime and bumped their lead to 31-26 as the fourth quarter began.

The Lady Generals were down as many as nine late in the game but made a valiant comeback for the final two-point spread. Two three-pointers by Kayla Tedrick and Alaynee Wright, plus a Wright free throw, cut the deficit to 37-35 with 52 seconds to go. Ridgewood resorted to fouling and although West Muskingum missed nine of its first 10 free throws, they did make four of their last six to seal the win.

Tedrick closed out her career with a game-high 18 points to lead Ridgewood (15-7). Senior Alaynee Wright added five tallies. Also closing out their Lady General careers were Ali Lusk and Roxanne Thursby.

West Muskingum (19-4) was led by Stephanie Imes with 13 points, including three foul shots in the critical last minute, and Amy Graham with 12.

The Lady Tornadoes advanced to play Fort Frye in the district final.
