UHRICHSVILLE -- Local cross country teams Indian Valley, Ridgewood and Newcomerstown were off and running on Saturday at the Claymont Early Bird Invitational.

In the boys large school division it was Uniontown Lake coming out on top in the team standings with 67 points, followed by host Claymont in second with 70 and Fairless grabbed third with 114. Indian Valley finished in 14th place with 333 points.

Bailey McBeth (44th-18:39.9) led the Braves' effort, followed by Nolan Rennicker (59th-19:19.0), Evan Meneff (67th-19:38.8), Austin Menefee (89th-20:16.0) and Cole Schreiner (110th-20:55.4).

In boys' small school action, it was St. Thomas Aquinas claiming the team title with 54 points, Sandy Valley was runner-up with 55 and Canton Central Catholic in third with 71. Locally Newcomerstown finished in fifth with 134 points, while Ridgewood didn't field enough runners to figure in the team standings.

Nathan Marinucci of the Trojans finished in fifth place with a time of 17:29.4 followed by teammates Derek Stamets (27th-19:09.8), Daniel Lovrinic (33rd-19:16.5), Josh Green (42nd-20:17.4) and Ryan Williams (48th-20:33.0). Zak Kessee of Ridgewood came in 19th with a time of 18:20.7 followed by Travis Vickers (50th-20:38.4) and A.J. Allman (85th-23:05.0).

Indian Valley raced to a third place finish in the girls' big school division with 143 points behind team champion Dover (56) and runner-up Claymont (133).

Leading the Lady Braves was Paige Saho in fifth place with a time of 20:05.3, followed by Courtney Emler (19th-21:15.7), Tawny Ault (30th-22:21.4), Emily Probert (39th-22:57.1), and Emily Baker (50th-23:28.8).

Neither Ridgewood or Newcomerstown fielded full teams in the small school division but had runners in action led by RHS's Jessica McCoun (23rd-23:32.9) with teammates Erica Olinger (29th-24:27.7) and Baylee Haynes (53rd-28:35.0).

McKaila Goodwin (41st-26:36.5) led the Lady Trojans' effort along with Amanda Perkins (43rd-26:42.4).
