Akron Manchester 4
AKRON -- Visiting Indian Valley grabbed an early lead to roll to a 9-4 win over the host Manchester Panthers in Principal's Athletic League regular season play on Monday.
The Braves jumped out to a 5-0 lead the initial inning, then added two in the second and one in the third frame to raise the difference to 8-0. Manchester cut the deficit in half in the fourth round plating four runs, but Indian Valley tacked on an insurance run the sixth round to complete the 9-4 win.
With the win, Indian Valley improves to 15-8 overall and 8-2 in PAC play.
Caden McGuire picked up the pitching win fanning four and giving up five free passes. He got relief help from Brady Byers in the final two frames who added three Ks and just one walk. Mason Nist absorbed the loss for the Panthers.
The Braves collected seven hits paced by Garron Fawcett with a triple, double and single scoring twice and driving in two runs. Richie Ashley led the five-hit attack by the Panthers with a double.
WEST LAFAYETTE -- Senior Zak Keesee hurled a shutout at visiting Garaway High on Tuesday night to lead the Ridgewood High Generals to a 3-0 victory in the Division III Sectional Tournament on the home diamond.
Keesee allowed just six hits and finished with two strikeouts and two walks to improve to 5-1 on the year for RHS. Colt Kiser took the pitching loss for the Pirates, striking out two and walking two.
Keesee and teammate Alex Croston then led the Generals at the plate with a double and single, while Ryan Lowe stroked an RBI double for the winners.
Garaway was paced by Colin Gerber with two singles, while Dallas Foster finished with a double.
Sandy Valley 10,
A rough season on the diamond for the Newcomerstown High Trojans came to a close on Tuesday with a 10-2 loss to visiting Sandy Valley in Inter-Valley Conference action.
Sandy Valley wasted little time in taking control of the contest with a five-run first inning to put the Trojans squarely behind the eight-ball right from the start.
A season long problem of an inconsistent offense continued with the Orange and Black managing just five hits in the game.
Senior Jordan Wharff took the loss for Newcomerstown (1-26, 1-13 IVC), walking five hitters with no strikeouts. Sandy Valley's Alex Sines picked up the win on the mound with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Sandy Valley banged out 10 hits, with Caleb Deford sluggin a home run and single, good for three RBIs. Sines chipped in a pair of base hits while Zach Schlimm and Brandon Daley each added doubles for the Cardinals.
Wharff led the Trojans with two singles while Ryan Williams and Jacob Rine each contributed RBI singles.
Indian Valley 6,
ZANESVILLE --Indian Valley High scored four unearned runs in the third inning and went on to a 6-2 win over Claymont in the Division II Sectional Tournament.
Indian Valley (16-8) got five runs off of Claymont starter Nate Robinson, but all five were unearned.
Shawn Mills went the distance for Indian Valley. He scattered six hits, struck out nine and walked five.
Coby Eckstein had a double, single and two RBIs for Indian Valley.
Mitch Smith topped Claymont (20-7) with two singles and an RBI.
WEST LAFAYETTE -- Its onto the Division III District tourney for the Ridgewood Generals after Thursday's 5-3 triumph over Coshocton.
After spotting Coshocton solo runs in the first and third innings, Ridgewood got on the board with a single tally in the fourth.
Still trailing 2-1 after five, the Generals (15-9) erupted for four scores in their sixth, then held on for the triumph.
Ridgewood pitcher CJ Grove earned the mound win with a complete game, five hitter. He fanned nine, walked four and scattered five hits.
Ryan Lowe and Dillon McPherson each provided two-hit games for the winners. One of Lowe's safeties was a triple. Brice Hammond, Zak Keesee and Austin Lowery each had an RBI.
With the win, Ridgewood advances to Tuesday's D-III District at River View at 5 p.m. where they will face either Fort Frye or Monroe Central.
West Holmes 4,
Indian Valley 3
ZANESVILLE -- Dillon Baird struck out 13 and walked one in a complete-game performance as West Holmes beat Indian Valley 4-2 in a Division II Sectional title game on Thursday.
West Holmes got things going early, scoring three times in the bottom of the first inning. Vayden Woods had an RBI single and later scored on an error. The third run came in on a fielder's choice.
The Knights made it 4-0 in the third inning when Gabe Snyder belted a solo home run.
Indian Valley, meanwhile, didn't score until the sixth when Brady Byers drove in Jake Davis with a sacrifice fly.
The Braves (16-9) added another run in the seventh when Coby Eckstein scored on a Shawn Mills sacrifice fly.
Baird improved to 6-1 on the season.
WEST LAFAYETTE -- Ridgewood High continued its recent spell of solid play with a Friday 8-0 make-up game triumph over visiting Strasburg in IVC play.
General pitcher Ryan Lowe tossed a five-hit shutout at the guests, striking out seven and walking just one.
Spearheading the 11-hit Ridgewood offense was Seth Bergeren, who had three singles and a run scored. Lowe helped his cause with a pair of hits, including a double, as did Alex Croston, who also knocked in three.
The win left Ridgewood with a 16-9 overall mark and a 10-2 record in the IVC.
