APPLE CREEK -- Visiting Ridgewood High dropped a 40-19 non-league football decision to Waynedale on Friday night in gridiron action.
The two teams were deadlocked at 6-6 after the first period, before the host Golden Bears outscored RHS 34-7 the in the middle quarters to roll to the win.
Things started well for the Generals, when Zach Donley scored on a three-yard run at the first period's midway mark. Even though the PAT kick failed, the Generals found themselves up 6-0.
Waynedale answered with a pair of scores by Rhen Weaver, a 15-yard run late in the first period and a 76-yard gallop halfway through the second for a 12-6 lead.
Alex Crosston's 13-yard run and a successful placement catapulted Ridgewood to a short-lived 13-12 lead.
Things then headed south for the Generals as the Golden Bears' Reid Stokey tallied another pair of TD runs before the half ended. The scores were followed by successful PAT runs which sent the hosts to the locker room up 28-13.
The third period was more of the same with Weaver scoring his fifth TD of the game followed by a passing score.
The tallies put Waynedale (2-0) up 40-13 and rendered a fourth period score by the Generals' Billy Bailey somewhat anticlimactic and completed the scoring.
The hosts enjoyed a huge 382-157 edge in rushing yards and a 20-8 advantage in first downs. For Ridgewood (1-1), Donley and Bailey combined to rush for 75 yards.
The hosts' Weaver enjoyed a career night, finishing with 230 yards and teammate Stokey added 129 yards.
