STRASBURG -- A late rally attempt came up short for the Newcomerstown High Trojans on Friday night, as NHS dropped an 18-15 decision to the host Strasburg Tigers in an Inter-Valley Conference match-up at Jon Hurst Field.
The Tigers jumped out to an 18-0 lead after the opening quarter of play before the Trojans battled back.
Landry Hostetler got the scoring under way with a 20-yard touchdown run in the first period, with Tyler Stephens adding a 65-yard sprint to paydirt for an early 18-0 lead.
Newcomerstown rallied for a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, with Cody Hall chalking up a pair of TD runs, the first coming from three yards out and the he added a five-yard run with 2:03 left in the game.
The Trojans tried the on-side kickoff, but the Tigers recovered and were able to run out the clock for the IVC win to improve 3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Jbril Dansby led the Trojans (2-2, 0-1 IVC) with 125 yards rushing on 19 carries, while Hall finished with 106. QB Austin Zufelt threw for 115 yards.
Strasburg was paced by Landry Hostetler with 129 yards with a pair of touchdown runs, with Tyler Stevens hauling in a 65-yard TD pass.
Newcomerstown finished with 330 yards of total offense, with 264 yards on the ground and 115 yards through the air, while the host Tigers racked up 156 yards rushing and 110 passing for a total of 266 yards.
