SOUTH ZANESVILLE -- Newcomerstown High took to the road to open the season Saturday and returned home empty handed, dropping a non-league softball twinbill to West Muskingum by scores of 5-0 and 6-5.

Allie McClain limited the Lady Trojans to just four singles in game one to post the shutout, while Raegan Smith absorbed the pitching loss for NHS in a complete-game outing.

Game two saw the same pitching match-up with McClain again posting the win and Smith taking the loss for the Lady Trojans (0-2).

Newcomerstown's offense came alive in the second game with Rachel Hinton belting a solo home run and single to lead the way, while Smith and Kayla Gibson each singled twice.

Hayley Watts paced the Lady Tornadoes at the pate with a double, single and two RBIs.
