Newcomerstown native Fletcher Shryock blew away the field in winning the Major League Fishing Challenge Cup Elimination Round tournament at Lake Eufaula, Alabama in a program that aired on the Outdoor Channel on Saturday.

Fishing against nine other anglers, Shryock caught 11 fish that weighed 23 pounds, 5 ounces.

Mike McClelland was second at 12-8; Kevin Van Dam was third at 11-13 and fourth was Brent Chapman at 8-11.

The top four placers advanced to the next round, a sudden-death elimination, that will be aired on June 3. That round will also be held at Eufaula.

The Major League Fishing format lets anglers count the weight from each scorable (12 inches or bigger) caught on the day. The fish are weighed as they are caught by a judge in the boat and immediately released.

Shryock's biggest fish in the tournament weighed 4 pounds, 2 ounces.
