BEALLSVILLE -- The Barnesville High golf squad shot a 179 to come out on top of a nine-hole six-team tournament at Switzerland Country Club on Monday evening.

Fort Frye finished a close second with a 182 followed by St. Clairsville (188), Magnolia (191), River (232) and Monroe Central (239).

Trey Blain of Magnolia and Brendan Vucelich of St. Clairsville shared match-medalist honors shooting a 38.

Leading the way for the first-place Shamrocks was Jim Byler who shot a 41 followed closely by Payne Johnson with a 42. Other Barnesville scorers include Davey Wells (45), Tyler Wilson (51) and Nathan Byler (51).


MT. PLEASANT --Barnesville High continued its solid start to the prep golf season on Tuesday by taking first place in a five-team match hosted by Martins Ferry at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course.

The 'Rocks improved to 14-0 on the season with a team total of 179 for the win followed by Bridgeport (193), Martins Ferry (194), Union Local (221).

Payne Johnson snared medalist honors with a 39 to pace the Barnesville winning effort, with Davey Wells (42), Jim Byler (48), Tyler Wilson (50) and Nathan Byler (53) completing the 'Rocks performance.
