NBC's new medical drama New Amsterdam will live to see another season. The network has renewed the show for a second season, per Variety, after amassing an audience of almost 12 million viewers per episode in its inaugural run, second in popularity only to Manifest.
New Amsterdam is loosely based upon the biographical novel Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer and centers on Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) as he bucks the system to deliver the utmost patient care, bureaucracy be darned.
New Amsterdam was the first of the fall's new series to receive a full-season order back in October. Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman and Jocko Sims also star.
In a statement, NBC Entertainment bosses Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta said, "We've been so excited to see how much audiences have embraced Dr. Max Goodwin and all the characters that make New Amsterdam such an incredibly compelling medical series. Congratulations to David Schulner, Peter Horton, our writers and an amazing cast and crew who have brought these stories to life."
New Amsterdam airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
