It's definitely been a record-breaking year for the Newcomerstown Middle School Trojan Track team, with three long-standing records having been broken already this season.
Eighth grader Cydney McMillan broke the NMS pole vault record of 7-feet previously set by Kara Brooks in 2007. Then on April 14, McMillan topped her own record with a height of 9-feet. This also surpasses the current Newcomerstown High School record but does not qualify as an NHS record since McMillan is still a middle school student.
Fellow eighth grade trackster Chandler Shryock is the current holder of two school records. On April 20, he competed in the 200 meter hurdles for the first time and set a new school record with a time of 27.5 seconds, breaking Matt Dansby's record of 29.0. On April 27, Shryock set another new record, this one in the 110 meter hurdles, with a time of 15.3, breaking the previous record of 15.5 set in 1987 by Delon Jackson.
