Helen F. McCune, 83, a lifelong resident of Newcomerstown, passed away early Tuesday evening, Oct. 12, 2010, at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, following a short illness.

Helen was born in Newcomerstown on May 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Charles W. Bodenheimer, who died in 1974, and the late Lydia E. Regula Bodenheimer, who died in 1986.

She attended Newcomerstown schools and was a homemaker for all her adult life. Helen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Newcomerstown, and belonged to the Lydia Women's Circle of the church. She also belonged to the Oriental Chapter 106, Newcomerstown OES (Eastern Star) and was a member of the Newcomerstown Senior Citizens where she served two terms as president. She was also a former member of the Buckhorn Grange 1445, Salem Township. Helen enjoyed working with and collecting crafts, painting, sewing, quilting, and playing cards.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel G. McCune, Newcomerstown, who passed away Dec. 23, 1975, and whom she married June 30, 1946. Also deceased are two daughters, Diannia L. McCune, Newcomerstown, who died in 1987, and an infant, Connie J. McCune, who died in 1949; a brother, Floyd E. Bodenheimer, Newcomerstown, who died in 2002; a sister, Violet F. Sorg, Hollendale, Fla., who died in 2009; sisters-in-law, Viola Mae Bodenheimer, Newcomerstown, who died earlier this year, and Charlotte M. Bodenheimer, Newcomerstown, who died in 2003; and a brother-in-law, Henry Sorg, Hollendale, Fla., who died in 2008.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Bonnie J. McCune, Newcomerstown; her brother, William J. "Bill" Bodenheimer, Newcomerstown; two special adopted daughters, Debbie Neighbor Glazer, Newcomerstown, and Marilyn Casterline Eggleston, Port Washington; and several nieces and nephews in the McCune and Bodenheimer families.

To honor Helen's requests, no visiting hours will be observed. Public graveside funeral services and burial took place at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown, on Saturday morning, Oct. 16, 2010. Pastor Kenneth G. Hacker of the St. Paul Lutheran Church conducted the services. The family is requesting that memorials be made in Helen's name to the Newcomerstown Senior Citizens Center, 222 S. Bridge St., Newcomerstown, OH 43832.

The Ourant Funeral Home in Newcomerstown is assisting the family with all arrangements.
