GNADENHUTTEN Carrie Louise Crouse, 78, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at her Gnadenhutten home.

She was born Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1933, in Birmingham, to the late Willard Frank and Nellie Gladys (McCulley) Hughes.

She was a 1951 graduate of Newcomerstown High School.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and making cookies and her famous chocolate/caramel cake for her grandkids.

She retired from the former Village Pharmacy at Gnadenhutten and for over 30 years enjoyed being a representative for Avon.

For the past 40 years, Carrie loved going camping with her husband to be with their friends at Forest Hills Lake.

On Sunday, June 21, 1953, at the Trinity Methodist Church of Newcomerstown, she married James Fredrick Crouse, who survives.

She also survived by two daughters, Debra (Robert) Putnam of Gnadenhutten and Denise (Tom) Huebner of New Philadelphia; one son, Daniel (Catherine) Crouse of Gnadenhutten; four grandchildren, Harlie Crouse, Carrie (Kevin) Edwards, Rob (Heather) Putnam and Brandon (Allison) Putnam; four great-grandchildren, Carter Irvan Edwards, Conner Robert Edwards, Peyton James Putnam, Ellie Ann Putnam; two sisters, Lucille Booth of Coshocton and Beatrice (Robert) Glazer of Mayfield Heights; brother-in-law, Ronald Crouse of Strasburg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Diana Lynn Crouse; two sisters, Beulah Chambers and Betty L. Hackenbracht; and three brother-in-laws, Charles Chambers, Jim Booth and John Hackenbracht.

Services were Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at the John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church in Gnadenhutten, with the Rev. Gregg Kelly officiating.

Burial was in the Gnadenhutten Cemetery.

The Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown was in charge of arrangements.
