Kindergarten registration set
Newcomerstown kindergarten registration has been set for April 12 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5:30 p.m., and April 13 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South College Street, Newcomerstown.
Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2012. It is most important that all children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall come to registration.
The child will be given a speech and hearing test, Brigance test, and vision screening. Parents must bring immunization records, birth certificate, social security number, and in the case of a separation or divorce, parents must bring proof of custody. Registration does take some time so plan to bring your child when you have extra time.
It is our suggestion that you make registration a special day for your child. Parents sometimes fix the child's favorite meal that day, purchase a lunch box or take the child out for ice cream.
This year all children who attend registration will be given crayons, scissors, a pencil, and glue stick for use at home. Parents will be given a Kindergarten Handbook and many suggestions to use to help children best prepare for entering school. If you have any questions about registration, call the East School office at 498-6601.
In the spring, each class has the opportunity to perform a short musical play for their family and friends. The plays are directed by Mrs. Robin Masloski, the music teacher. The kindergarten classes will be performing "The Three Piggy Opera." The first grade classes will be performing "Stone Soup." If you have not had the pleasure of attending one of these "Afternoon Teas," you will be delightfully surprised at the performances of these budding actors and actresses! It is guaranteed to bring a smile to every audience member's face. After the performance the children get to share punch and cookies with their families and friends. So be sure to set aside this date and invite your family and friends. The performances will be at East School and begin at 2 p.m.
