W. Fred Opphile, 69, of Newcomerstown, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Union Hospital, Dover.
He was born Monday, Nov. 30, 1942, in Newcomerstown, to the late Walter R. and Dorothy L. (Arbaugh) Opphile.
He was a 1960 Newcomerstown High School graduate and was a graduate of the Chicago Institute.
He was an auto body mechanic for Jerry Glockner and Scheff Chevrolet, both of Coshocton, and was Body Shop manager for H&H auto body also of Cochocton. He was a Hamm Radio Operator, Gray Beard was his handle, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
On Sunday, April 18, 1965, he married Barbara (Bobbi) (Harron) Opphile.
He is also survived by one son, Steven F. Opphile and fiance Jennifer Sims of Newcomerstown; one daughter, Amy Jo (James II) Hill of Midvale; three grandchildren, Richard L. Cantrell, Andrew T. Cantrell and Tia Sims; and two sisters, Sharon (Gary) Eubank of Groveport and Judy (Ron) Getchey of San Diego, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Lynn Opphile.
Services were Saturday, March 17, 2012, in the Addy Funeral Home, Newcomerstown.
