Quilting in museum

VHS tapes available

Newcomerstown Library is continuing to offer its entire collection of VHS and cassettes for sale. They have plenty of selection left of children's and non-fiction tapes and books on tape. If you bring in your own bag, you can fill it up for only $1 donation. The sale will continue while supplies last.

Health screening

A free health screening is planned at Medi-Wise Pharmacy on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The free screenings include blood pressure, blood sugar, and total cholesterol. Fasting is recommended.

Trivia night planned

A trivia night will take place at Newcomerstown Public Library on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. Gather your team of 4 to 6 adults and come join in a fun evening of friendly competition. Call the library to register your group at 498-8228.

Moose Idol Karaoke

The Newcomerstown Moose Lodge is hosting Moose Idol Karaoke on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places.

Car/bike show set

The Newcomerstown Bicentennial Committee will be having a car/bike show and rib/burn off on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Newcomerstown High School. The show is rain or shine. The show will be a participant judged. Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 registered. There is a $10 registration fee. Registration is from 1 to 3 p.m. Awards will be presented at 5 p.m.

Awards will be given to the top 25 vehicles and the top three motorcycles.

There will be food and music by the Spikeman.

Rib/BBQ Burn Off set

The Newcomerstown Bicentennial Committee will be having a Rib/BBQ Burn Off on Sunday, Sept. 16 at Newcomerstown High School from 1 to 5 p.m. The burn off is in conjunction with the car show.

There is a $10 set-up fee. Pre-registration will be required as well as a copy of a food service license.

Registration will be accepted on the day of the show. Set-up begins at 10:30 a.m.

Sub sale

East School is having its annual dinner on Friday, Sept. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. Dine-in and carry-out are available.

This year, they will be having a sub sale. The meal includes a sub on a hoagie bun (your choice of Italian, ham or turkey), macaroni or potato salad, cookie and a drink. Children's dinner includes a child's sub, applesauce, cookie and a juice box. Adult tickets are $8 and children's tickets are $3. Tickets are pre-sale and pre-paid only. They cannot guarantee to have meals the night of the dinner if you have not purchased a ticket. Tickets are on sale now in the East School office.

Homecoming parade

The Newcomerstown High School Homecoming parade is set for Friday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. The parade kicks off at the high school and travels down Oak Street to River to Church to College to Main to Goodrich and back to Oak Street.

Chicken barbecue

BALTIC -- St. Peter's Fiat UCC will have a chicken barbecue on Sept. 22 at the Baltic Grocery Store lot. Chickens will be ready at 11 a.m.

The cost is $5.50 per half.

Frontier Apple Festival returns

The Frontier Apple Festival in Newcomerstown returns Oct. 4, 5 and 6 this year. There is a rib cook-off planned, entertainment, and a car show. For information or to have a display, call 498-5420.

Blood testing

The Newcomerstown Rotary Club's blood testing program will be Saturday, Oct. 6 from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the Newcomerstown West School.

The blood test cost is $35. Prostate specific antigen is $25. There are is also thyroid screenings for $20 and Hemoglobin A1C for $25.

Tests will be administered by the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital lab.

Participants must fast for 12 hours prior to the time of the blood draw. Do not smoke the morning of the testing. Drinking water is permitted.

Breakfast will be available and served from 6:30 to 10 a.m. by the PTO.

Also that day, bring in your unused or expired drugs which can be turned in to be disposed of properly.

Farmers market continues

Newcomerstown Farmers Market is up and running for the season. It takes place every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Newcomerstown Library parking lot. Enjoy fresh local produce and baked goods. You will also find assorted crafts, jewelry, soap and candles.

Christ's Kitchen

Christ's Kitchen, located in the Fellowship Hall of the Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown, serves dinner from 4 to 6:15 p.m. every Monday. The dining room is open from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The meal is free but donations are accepted.

Sonshine Boxes drop-off

Bob Pell's Nationwide Insurance office, located at 117 N. Bridge St., Newcomerstown, is a new collection site for items to be sent to soldiers serving our country. Items may still be donated at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, also in Newcomerstown. Sonshine Boxes consist of anything a soldier might need such as personal hygiene items, games, movies, etc.
